Behind my entries - DnD

Geographical Society DnD Night!!!
It was a hectic night for me, because I was involved in the programmes. The theme was retro night, or more specifically, Saturday Night Fever!! That explains all the weird looking clothes we were wearing!!

Events hardly run perfect, and of course, mine was not close to it, but still, hope everyone had fun from it. Certainly grateful that its over cause it took up a lot of my time, opportunity cost was great in terms of studying!! Here are some of the photos from that night! ENjoy!

Me and Val Phang. That night, the room was filled with 3 Vals. Lucky she was in programmes with me. Without you that night, I would have died that night. Thanks for your help!
The most expensive guy in our society, Darm X, aka PD of DnD 2007. I think he is the happiest after the event is over, because everything is over. You held your ground well!!
Winners of the DnD Pageant!! Mr. & Ms. Saturday Night Fever!!
Someone won a huge voucher that night!!! Super lucky ah you!!! Prof Chang (left) sponsored the gift. Prof Huang (right) made her presence felt on that day on Phang, haha.. But still, both ladies were able to smile for the camera =)
Very small, hardly can see me. Its ok, more important is to get the big picture!!!

Complete my update. Oh, and ZY.. don't drink so much next time!! haha..

No life

Everyday, I come into my room in NUS to hide, starting from 730am. I'm earlier than most Profs in NUS, because it is quite an unearthly timing to come to NUS. Studying and giving tuition like there is no night no day. Slave to my tuition kids parents and studying. Breaking now from lunch, of I should say after lunch. Later, I will need to do my Lab and my tutorials. Understanding game theory is really no easy feat, but its really kinda nice.

Teacher's Day coming, and again, I hope to go back to my Sec sch to take a look at its aging, yet re-newing teacher cohort, plus its ever changing landscape. New meets old.. Hope I will do so, but tomorrow I'm quite busy also. I shall see to it that I make it to see them. Happy Cher day!!!

Ending of summer?

Reading is fun. Glad that I'm starting to read again. Happy that I am learning Japanese. The season of love. Glad that people are getting attached. Ok with the idea that I am not. Glad that there will be a gathering at my house this Saturday, and JH bringing his gf. Good good. One more down, who will be the next one bringing a girl to our gathering? ZJ and Jeanie, faster come back and join us in gatherings! LJ flying off soon to UK. Poor thing, hope he got enough money to eat there. XD still in Aust, but he much richer than us, so shouldn't be a problem for him one. Not sure if he will accidentally get to know my friend, because I was suppose to intro him to her, but I forgot, while she also never really pestered me.

Not lazy, near is here

I do not understand why people feel that I have no life of my on. Ok, I might not really have a life, but I do have things I want to do. Please, stop making intrusions into my life without planning ok? Talking about tuition. 6 kids is quite a killer, but not because of time management, because 1 shift affects another, and another, and another. Ripple effect, domino effect, whatever. Its so freaking hard to plan my schedule around if everyone wants me to fit into their own time. Freaking hell.

Fitting life in very well still. Studying, working and leisure. These few stuff eat up my life. Gd that I am working hard. In fact, I cant talk too much lo.. going to revise my nihonji. (I think its written as like that, hope I am correct)

Back from Taiwan!!

I am back from Taiwan! It was a real blast, though it was also real tiring from the sleep deprivation and intensive walking. I did minimal shopping, maximum walking, but most importantly, I made new friends and renewed old bonds. New were from Singapore, those that went on the trip with us. Real interesting people, with some I already usually see in NUS before this trip. When the new semester starts, I can say 'Hi' to them. Old bonds are the ones that I already knew, those from GS, 3 girls that I knew before and most importantly, a few Taiwanese girls.

Globalisation is so interesting. So many things we can learn from other cultures. I am truly grateful that I am bilingual because I was able to communicate with the Taiwanese locals. Have to revise my Mandarin, as well as pick up Japanese.

KTV was great!!!

Awesome! I organised a KTV outing, and I think it was a success! Most importantly, economics theory helped me in some analysis sense! Let me talk about the KTV first.

It was GREAT!!! 9 people, including me, showed up, and although some needed to leave early, everything went very smooth. Those that usually sang sang a lot, those first-timers were also very sporty, sang quite a few songs!!! Thanks all those that came, do not want to put names and bore other people, haha.. and it was cheap for a night singing session. To prevent people from calculating the actual per person cost, I will not disclose the total cost, hehe.. I will upload the photos soon, when I get them from the main holder.

On to my economics theories.
1) Free market not always that efficient. Most of us like to sing, and most like to go out together. If we leave it to the market forces, with the lack of information, we wouldn't meet up and sing KTV together. Singing together increases the overall utility for everyone, as compared to being stuck at home. With no organised 'contract', the mis-informed free market will not be able to land itself at the optimal utility level. Next comes me, the deprived one. My incentive to make the outing work has escalated so much that the effort for working the outing out is less than the perceived benefits I will get.

Benefit Cliff gets from outing > cost for Cliff in creating outing

Thus, I (in general sense could be the government, but I'm not saying I'm the government) created this 'contract' to get everyone to follow, and ensure, with the word of promise that they will follow. Eventually, everyone came, enjoyed (increase utility), and 'economy' is better off. Something like multi-prisoners dilemma? I hope I applied it correctly.

2) Information, and this will bring on to the 2nd part, the proposed (but failed) stayover. But before that, the singing. No one asked me who was going when I first suggested the singing. Initially, the idea was good enough for them to not care first about who was going. However, only I and another person or 2 were free, the singing most likely will not occur. In fact, I guess people held the assumption that since singing is such a common thing, most people would come. Of course, everyone have their minimum no. of people before they are willing to come. For me, at least 3 more persons. Of course, some less, some more, and some completely independent of the attendance, because they are not interested in singing. Thus, when they clarified how many are coming, I was able to give them more than 5 names that were at least truly coming. Thus, this ensured the attendance of each other, and assumption that others will come, and that their basic no. of people will be there. Critical mass, turning point – that idea. Next, I draw upon the proposed stayover. The same situation, but a stayover demands more commitment, more of the correct people (not necessarily more people). 2 girls and 2 guys expressed interested in staying over. However, one of the girls did not get approval of their parents, and could not stayover. Tipping point tipped. The other girl depended on this girl to stay for her to stay. Thus, she did not stay as well. With 3 people only, we realised its not worth the stayover either. All out tipping points were tipped, and stayover cancelled.

Sorry, bad attempt at trying to make economic sense of daily lives. Hope what I say make economics sense =)

Morning of first day of FOC

I like mornings. They are nice and cool, weather that is hardly possible throughout the day of my country. I am sitting alone here in the forum of NUS. Ok, I am not really alone, because people are walking by me, and also, across me, there is a foreign student sitting at another bench. Do not ask me where I know he is foreign. I just know. /Healing from my ailing ankle. Not 100%. In fact, I give it 50%, and I think I will get some change back. I think operation is more of less certain. Only time and cost, both monetary value and opportunity cost. I have already lost a lot of those when I entered the unthinkable. For me, the unthinkable still exist. /Morning of Geo Soc FIC aka FOC. I remember my first FOC I was super late. The 2nd one I was on time. This time, I am super early, so early that I can only feel the cold wind, while practising my typing without looking at the screen, just looking around for people that I might know. Feeling quite ill. Nose has been bad since ICT, because the air is so dirty. I think I should be exempted from dusty areas, but if only I was my own MO. He just thinks everyone wants to fake out of army, which is only 70% true. I dare say I'm the 30% honest.

What I have read

Latest 3 reads. 'The Return of the Depression Economics' by Paul Krugman, 'Freakonomics' by Steven D. Levitt/Stephen J. Dubner and 'The Strategist' by Robert Dodge. Commonality, economic books. Difference, first one talks about recessions in modern economies, second talks about weird things under that sun linked to economic theories, and the last one, the one that took most of my reading time writes about Thomas Schelling, famous Economics Nobel Prize winner of 2005 that influenced many important issues like the Cold War, Vietnam War and even Singapore policy making. I want to remember the things I read from these books. All books actually. In fact, its the second time I have read Depression, because I forgot some of the insights in the book.

The next book I am going to read, 'The End of Poverty' by Jeffrey Sachs. However, the book is due soon (I borrowed most of the books I'm reading from the library). I hope to complete it before returning, which is within a week. 300 plus pages, with words small as ants. I will commit myself to read it, and maybe borrow it again if I can't finish this time.

I also bought 5 books from the MPH sale, which I have not touched. 2 on economics, 3 on thoughts. Hope to finish reading them by this holiday, which I doubt is achievable. Went to library today and found more books I want to read. Reading is fun, but retaining the information and putting it into good use is the hard.

And oh no, forgot all about my own book. Damn, I need to work harder and stop procrastinating.

Xmas!!!

So big is the tree in a very enclosed Taka that I am not able to take the whole tree. This is my best attempted, and truss me, I really tried.

A real big Xmas tree (it still looks small around all the other trees along Orchard Road). When will they get a tree that will tower all the trees along the Orchard Road!!!! But I like this tree, although I never got close enough, because my eyes were too painful for me to carry on my journey to the tree.

I am really lazy to type more stuff, because I have been working quite a lot. Tomorrow, I will be still working, so I am not able to go play volleyball. That's quite bad, but at least i will get paid.

Post-World Cup disease

Anyone wondering why I have not been blogging for the past few days? Its because my body is still feeling rather weak. Yes, after so long, I am still suffering post world cup illness. Insomina, constipation, no appetite. Not because world cup has ended, but because my bio-clock was turned upside during the world cup period, even till now. Slowly I am tuning my bio-clock back. I am not really very successful yet, but its vital that I do, because school is starting soon.

O week was ok, but I think my ailing body really cannot cope it. Had to leave on the second day because my ankle could not take it, as well as suffering from a lack of sleep. I tend to need a lot of sleep.

My mind seems to be wonder off ever so often nowadays. Cannot really focus on anything productive. Have not been reading much these few days. However, after a week or 2 of messing around with real estate, I realized my pet topic is still the stock market. Think I will be going back to my roots once I get back my conscious.

Have been doing up my room. Went shopping with my mother for fabrics for my room. Went to ‘Spotlight’ at PS.

Honestly, my body is still feeling weak. What I have been eating has not really been coming out well. School is starting soon. Hope it will be fun. Hope O week will be fun. I want to get productive again soon!!!!

GEoSoC was GREAT!!!!

BACk from my 4 days, 3 nights of GE0SoC. Was a great camp. Met a lot of nice, warm people. Was half an hour late on the 1st day, haha.. There on, it was a beginning of a packed, yet not very physically exhausting camp.

Icebreakers, mass dance, Sentosa, Fright Night, West Coast, Finale Night, Go Home. Basically its like that, plus miggling around, eating supper at Fong Seng.... Only on the 1st night was i able to get to sleep for more then 4hrs.

Oh, i remembered sth. On the 1st night, i dropped my keys, hahah... Opps... lucky got people help me find, or else i have to pay $50 for this camp, haha...

The whole camp only got 6 freshies and alot of seniors, haha... Still, it was generally a very small camp, but that means that everyone was able to miggling with everyone.

I was made to do the mass dance. Haha.. those that know me know I dun dance, haha... well, copying people most of the time. But in the end, all of the dancing couples forgot the last few moves. Well, at least it was only a few mins, haha.... think it was better than pagant, hehe...

Hope to keep contact with them. Although I most likely would not major in Geography, GEoSoc feels like a nice place that i want to belong to.

It was a really good FOC. Really enjoyed it!!! 2 Thumbs UP for the GeoSoc committee. Looking forward for other camps.

Laptop adventure

Unbelievable!!! Becos my laptop has a wireless internal moderm, n i have a wireless broadband router set up in my hse, i can use my laptop's internet in my 3rd floor's room, n in my 1st floor's living room. The router moderm is in the 2nd floor, my bro using it for his com. Using it in the 1st floor abit slower, i can help my mother check her stocks on the internet, n show her in the living room, rather than run up n down in the past. COOL!!!!

Tonight is also my ord function dinner, held at Chervon. Saw a couple of old faces that have ORDed or posted out to other units. Too bad my specs din come back, for some reasons not adviseable to write here. Some of my mates won some great prizes in the lucky draw, like a ipod shuffle, a 1gig thumbdrive, a nokia hp, sony mini hi-fi.... stuff like that. i din win anything, but i guess that i was already a winner, cos i finished serving my 'sentence', n can move on to the greener pastures in life very soon.

Saw some of the female 'soulmates' of some of my mates. All of them are pretty lovely in my eyes, but hey, who cares abt wat i think, cos they are my mates' soulmates, not mind, haha... Quite surprisingly, seeing them w their female counterparts din make me green w envy, like wati feel in the past inside. I din feel much, other than being happy for them. Now, when i am typing this do i realise y i have such feelings. im not numb, but i finally have an aim in life, one greater than finding a gf. MY ultimate GOAL in life, the one that i wanna reach in order for me to consider myself successful. i wun say it now. no pt saying it out also. Empty vessel makes the most noise. i wan to let my actions to the talking, n let e results prove my sincerity. Onwards to my action plans!!!

Bloody day after duty

Had duty last nit. Did wat i had to do, n gd enough, i get to bk out today morning. Went to SAJC fun fair. Din do much, n only saw a couple of familar faces. Only thing i did was play enough vball to kill myself. My lips, hip, elbows bled cos i did some 'diving' on the very rough vball court. That was like the most worthwhile thing i did in Sajc.

Really feel that my class is not close at all, cos only a few came back. i din talk to most of them either. Feel that my class is really very distant w each other, some more i always feel that i am a class loner. Thats the identity i have been holding. But still i went back, cos my civics tutor asked me to go back. i like him alot as a teacher n person, so i went to sajc for his sake.

After i went to sajc, i went to ikea to buy stuff. I only bought half of the stuff i wanted to buy, cos it was too heavy for myself to carry, n some more i wanted to see if i really need that much stuff. Was the 1st time i bought a closet for myself, haha... Spend $85 for abt half a closet stuff. i find thats quite ok. Also, while eating lunch n Ikea BK, i saw a cute gal, haha... i think 18, cos i heard her saying abt A levels stuff. i just look only, din ask to be her friend or anything.

When i went back home in a taxi, the horror began. i was opening the ikea packing when the jackknife i was using cut opened the plastic holder n went straight for my face. It sank right into my forehead n out, in a spilt second. before i could realise, blood was gushing out of my forehead. it was not painful at that instance, just scary, cos i never realise blood could gush out so fast!!! My sis was there to witness it, n she quickly went to get some toliet for me. i went straight to show my mother. by when i reached the kitchen, my specs, half of my head, my right leg, n half of my hse's floor was covered w the blood coming out of my head. the tissue that i had used to cover my wound was soaked in blood, n blood was literally dripping from the toliet paper's corners to the floors... Luckily, my uncle dropped by to visit us, n my mother asked him to send me to mount E hospital A&E. The rest is standard hospital. get wound clean, wait, doct asked wat happened, wait, wait, wait, wait, stitch, get medicine, go back home. End of Drama Mamma. I had 5 stitches on my forehead though.

In the end, i still went for my aunt's hse warming, w everyone asking me wat happened to my head. luckily my parents were there to do most of the talking. I was unable to go to my friend's stayover, cos i was quite tired from yesterday duty, still suffering from the knife wound i had, n that my parents will be worried even if i go there despite the pain n tireness. Rather sad, was looking forward to going to my friend's hse one. Unlucky in some sense. Never mind, next time i have my own room warming n can invite them.

Anyway, i felt that i was very lucky already, cos if i had not wore specs, it could be my right eye, n not my forehead that got the knife. Was saved from being half blind!!! ""=< Also, it is quite an exp to see so much of ur blood come out, at such a fast rate. even faster than the time when i donated blood. Scary, yet, some how, in a way, refreshing (i must clarify, i am not a sadistc person). Also, being so close to getting half blind is like a smaller version of almost getting killed. U feel rather blessed to have escaped the ordeal w sth less serious. I actually gave my prayers to the Goddess of Mercy when i came back from the hospital, volunteerily, w/o my mother telling me to do so. Too bad i am 'banned' from fixing the closet by myself. Waiting for my father to do so will take very long, cos he is a busy man. =(

After all that dram is over, only left w one think to worry - whether my 'pretty' face will be scarred or not, hehehe.... =(

Gd gathering

Yesterday nit had a class gathering. Met up w some very old friends, one of which whom i last saw was wearing her pri sch uniform (er... meaning i have not seen her since we graduated). Many could not come, many came late, n many others have to leave early. Guess we are all too grown up n busy w our lives to sometime come together for a gathering. Its the fact of life, nothing to be sad abt =)

Many of my ex-classmates are overseas, doing law, medicine, dentistry. Think next time i can just look up my old contacts if i have any trouble in any field. On a serious note, if next time we are to have a gathering, i guess we will have to fly from all parts of the world to meet in some part of the world. Maybe one damn rich classmate can pay for the whole class's air tic, haha...., maybe even biz class for all, haha.... Already got a few potiential ones hanging ard already......

We chat till damn late, till 2am, thats y last nit i din write anything on my blog. We got to do alot of catching up, n learn quite alot of stuff from all my other classmates. One thing i think they all agree is that i now talk alot, so much more than when i was in pri sch. Cos in pri sch i just sit there guai guai dun talk one, haha... now im like a trash talker to them. One of them even said i changed the most in terms of behavour. Well, people change, just that different people change differently.

This reminds me of a phrase i heard : 'Its the missing of the people in ur life that makes the gathering w them the most joyful'. i heard it from my head one (err... meaning i tot of it myself, hehe)

My Wish List...

Yo people, wanna give me a gift but dunno wat to give?? haha..... i got so many things i wan. Either i cant find or cant afford them. Its a long list, look thru it to c if u all can supply me any, hehe.. =)

1) A laptop/new computer. My sis is growing up too fast. she needs a comp, so i decide to buy myself a new one, so i can give her my old one, haha.... well, its for her

2) Some classy furniture for my new attic-room. It will be a place where i can hold gatherings, study, work, play, enjoy life... just a personal space for me to get back my status quo in the hectic spore.

3) A mp3 player. I dun need ipod (although it would be nice, hehe...) or zen touch. At least sth for me to get someone's big mp3 playlist so i can listen to at home. I am a music craze!!!

4) Oil painting duplications. Under my very limited art knowledge, i wan to have 'Last Supper", by Da Vinci. I even have left a a wall empty in my attic-room so i can hang it up

5) Some nice clothes. I really have a lack of clothes, esp since i am going to uni soon. I need to look smart so that i wun ruin the beauty landscape of my fac, n allow the gals to concentrate on their studies. Im so considerate rit =)

6) Money. Haha.. in spore who does not wan more money?? I dun wan alot of money, a few billion would do, so i can do my part to save the world =)

To think of it, i dun really have a very long list. Only 6 things?? Come on, Cliff, u can do better rit??? Yeah, i guess i cant, thats all the things i can think of for now, haha.... Dunno worry, as they say, humans are never satisfied, so if u all think that these 6 items will be easily fulfilled, i will come up w more stuff for u all to give me =)

As the bible says(i think, cos im not a Christian, but i always hear Christians saying this), ask n u will recieve. I have asked, now i just hope someone would start to do the giving so i can recieve, hehe...
