So many singing competitions, acting competitions supposely give people an entry to the showbiz industry. Is there really such a lack of singers or entertainers out there that we need to resort to such ideas? No offence to anyone that has joined such competitions, but I hope what I have to say here would bring some new perspectives to anyone that cares to read it.
Other than 2 of the winners of some recent singing competitions, I feel that they do not really capture much talent. Just a personal opinion. Some people suck in their acting, but still got by with their good looks. Luckily, one did not. However, even though I felt that the 2 winners of those 2 competitions deserved to win, when their albums were cut, I did not show any support for either. Why? Sometimes, I do not even show my support for international singers, because I just have too many budget constraints to support every Tom, Dick or Harry that pops out of the blue and starts singing for a living. They do sound nice, for a while, but soon after, I still pretty all time greats like Elvis Presley, Beatles, or recent singers like Jacky Cheung, Jay Chow, etc... Even local singers I would consider Tanya Chua or Stephaine Sun. There are so many to be named here, and certainly, these 'winners' are way below my considered list of singers that I might support.
Now, the school singers are singing their hearts out on TV. Yes, one of them does sound nice (I emphasis ONLY one of them). So? Would I buy her album, that is if she wins? I still prefer my Jay Chow, the one whom I am listening happy now. Will the other winners cut more albums soon, after their first one? If you sing 'well', KBOX or Party World is a nice place to hang out. Do what I usually do, spoil my friends' ear drums, hehe...
